Our international development

Our international expansion strategy

International growth has been in Schmidt Groupe’s genes since day one. Founded in Germany back in 1934 before expanding into France in 1959, Schmidt Groupe is building a network across Europe and even further afield with showrooms located near to their local markets.

We are aiming to become a recognised player in every town and city where we do business. To reach this ambition, we are carving a commanding foothold in our local markets by achieving critical mass.

Schmidt Groupe has 200 showrooms in over 20 countries worldwide, from its northernmost showroom in Reykjavík to its southernmost showroom in Sydney.

International business accounts for 13% of the Group’s revenue, with the strong ambition of reaching 20% by 2030.

Pursuing international development

Our strategy is based on three pillars:

  • Committed local partners who share our values and vision. We build strong relationships of trust with our dealers/partners, which is key to growing our business in every region.
  • Alignment with the specific needs of each market with no standardised business models. Each site is designed to meet the expectations of local consumers, while maintaining the same high quality and service standards as in France.
  • Production from a central vantage point in Europe between Alsace and the Saarland to guarantee product quality and reliability.

  • 90 showrooms throughout Spain

Luis Jiménez, Subsidiary Managing Director

Specific characteristics of the local market

  • A buoyant market for several years. Schmidt is now the leading specialist.
  • A relatively low-cost and highly fragmented market where specialists still hold a small share of the market.
  • The kitchen is the heart and soul of the home. Closed kitchens still represent the majority, although open plan kitchens are increasingly gaining in popularity, especially in new builds.
  • Sleek styles and sober colours dominate: almost 70% of kitchens are ordered in neutral tones (white, off-white and beige).
  • Main selection criteria: value for money and improved use of the available space.
  • Recommendations from professionals (interior designers) play a decisive role, with such events as the Casa Decor show.

Subsidiary’s ambition

Achieve benchmark status in Spain’s home design market with solutions covering more than just kitchens, and strengthen its geographical presence with full nationwide coverage.
